I love Elon because he's honest. He relies on Federal Funding. If he wants to ask the Feds for more funding and the funding ain't there, he won't get it. Auditing government spending ensures that there's money there for his own projects. It's in his best interest.
The whole idea is self-serving, but also very altruistic.
Social Security is going to go bust in a decade. Then, you come to find out that our Social Security money is being frittered away to refugees and illegal immigrants, who sometimes get more money than the Americans who rely on it. That was a huge issue this election. Social Security is for Americans and Americans only. It's not a matter of having a political opinion. The issue was all a matter of accounting. If it's not solved, we're screwed. 'Murica can't keep giving away our retirement & disability money to people who don't pay into it.
I think the idea of DOGE is simply to compile budgeting data and present that data to the president and congress to determine whether the spending is justifiable or simply a waste. The giant spiderweb of Federal agencies all have their own budgets, and a lot of money gets lost in the crack. I would love to see all of the macro-spending compiled together and aggregated.
If the department winds up functioning properly, it could work as an intermediary, and help lower the deficit, but i'm just speculating. I don't think Elon wants into politics, nor does he want an official cabinet position. Because of all of the government contracts that Space X has, it's always best for him to bump fists terracore and stay buddy-buddy with the party in power.
The Dems didn't do anything for him; they were a threat to his Space X funding.
