family walks

Another day enjoying my country, today I want to show you a wonderful trip that I had with my family, when going to these different but spectacular sites we enjoyed a beautiful climate, and we learned a lot. My family and I wanted to go to The National Astronomical Observatory of Llano del Hato and the lagoon of mucubaji.

The National Astronomical Observatory of Llano del Hato: is located a few minutes from El Aguila Peak and Mucubaji Lagoon. It is the only professional observatory in the country , and the highest in the world in the equatorial region. In this center, nocturnal astronomical observations are carried out throughout the year, which address such fundamental problems as the origin of our planet and Solar System, how our Galaxy was formed, and what is our place in the Universe.

The Mucubají Lagoon is located between 3625-3655 meters above sea level in the Sierra Nevada Park, in the state of Merida, Venezuela. It is one of the largest in the region. It is believed that the name of the lagoon is due to how it was named by the indigenous inhabitants of the region. Mucubají means in this language "site of the big water". The lagoon is of glacial origin and is about ten thousand years old. The environment is typical of a moor, lots of frailejones and many trout within the lagoon.

In the surroundings of the lagoon you can find a varied fauna, including different species of emblematic birds of the Venezuelan Andes, without forgetting that we find very beautiful and unique landscapes of our country Venezuela. Here we enjoy a walk, and a ride on horseback, the weather and the friendly and affectionate people of the Andes. It was a beautiful family experience.
