On my father's farm there lies several old cars sitting amongst the weeds and under trees and undergrowth. They spent the past thirty years just sitting there waiting for someone just to be ignored. Now they sit idol beyond repair rusted through and falling apart. But an interesting relic of history nevertheless.

A relic of the past, Source
Things in nature tend towards entropy. No matter how hard we try to establish order on the universe, chaos is always the end result. The more complex a system, the more vulnerable it is to breaking to such a state where it is irreparable. As people grow and die, the things that they build eventually collapse due to neglect.
Perhaps that is the saddest state of being. Decay. Neglect. Collapse.
Perhaps we'll feel nostalgia for the glory days. Or maybe we'll regret that we didn't take better care of it and let it fall apart and into such a state of disrepair. Things are so new, but we are all human. Today's new toy is tomorrow's dusted relic.
We could maintain. We could build. But it is so much easier to forget and move on.
... let's keep building just a little bit longer!
when decay begins, that's when you begin to see the real weaknesses in the design... no better time to learn how to fix this for the better.
even if the lesson may only be good for the next generation of toys to come, just to see those falling apart eventually, too.
decay is a beautiful process... i mean... look at that image up there!
Wow what an amazing sight. Im one of those guys who spends hours around old equipment admiring the work put into it and imagining its history. Thinking of the people who built it, used it, and stood in awe when watching it work for the first time.
It always amazes me that if humanity went extinct all our cities, roads, and infrastructure would disappear very quickly.
From the ashes rises a phoenix.
