Currently, much of EOSio uses RAM not as RAM, but rather as hardrive storage. vRAM allows RAM to be reserved for the essentials that can still be swapped with vRAM's stored data, conserving the necessary RAM for functions to a minimal.

Totally agree, currently ram is cheap, but for enterprise style dapps this will be essential.
