RE: BuildTeam EOS Block Producer Candidacy Announcement

in #eos6 years ago

Excellent post! I'm really excited you will also be involved in EOS governance and block production!

Question:

BuildTeam will not offer payment to EOS token voters under any circumstance.

Will the BUILDTEAM token be involved in any way related to this new BuildTeam project? As in, will any potential profits from this be completely separate from any other BuildTeam ventures which funnel into the BUILDTEAM token?

I joined the eosDAC launch team more than a month ago and also have concerns about vote buying, but I'm not yet convinced decentralizing governance within a BP and potentially spreading some rewards to members counts as vote buying since there is no compensation for a vote, just a value add like any other value add. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Sort:

Our thoughts on this subject are similar to your own and we do not think the operational model of eosDAC constitutes a form of vote buying. Vote buying, in the sense of directly offering people compensation in exchange for their vote, can be seen as a type of bribe, turning the election of BPs into a game of who has the deepest pockets instead of who has the best technical merits for the job. That kind of behavior is to be frowned upon. But with eosDAC tokens, people have a way to invest in the success of the organization which is decoupled from the act of voting. That's no different from investing in any other business, expecting you will receive profits if the business does well. Looking at it another way, I may invest in shares of Microsoft stock because I think they are a well run business, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I'll limit myself to only using Windows when Linux will do the job, and owning shares won't by itself instill in me any particular loyalty toward Microsoft.

Talking about BuildTeam now, we consider that being a block producer is one way of growing our business. Block producer income can support new development of additional projects for EOS, hiring more people for our development team, offsetting costs, etc in line with the proposed percentage breakdown in our post. And in general, increased business growth leads to increased value for BUILDTEAM tokens, so in that sense we expect expanding our services into EOS will have a positive impact for our investors. Overall revenue increases always have an impact on BUILDTEAM tokens, and we don't keep profits from any one project segregated from the others.

Thank you. I really like the example you gave with owning shares.

Will your block producer income not be considered revenue for BuildTeam, but kept separate as funds to invest in BuiltTeam projects which then generate revenue which is then shared via BUILDTEAM?

A portion of block producer income will be set aside for exactly that purpose, yes. And if there is anything leftover from the rest after subtracting company savings & EOS related operating expenses, then that leftover amount will contribute to general revenues. So we've got something of a hybrid approach which we feel is a balanced way to manage the funds.

Very interesting @cryptomancer! This answers a bit more the question I asked (that you answered) in a previous post from @buildteam .

I agree @lukestokes! I was also thinking about the same you asked here some days ago in another post from Buildteam. Very interesting to see what this new business activities generate to BT.
