I thought the point of EOS is not to give people free EOS coins, it is to provide a high TPS free user transactions blockchain for enterprise level decentralized apps that cannot be censored. As pointed out by other posts before, we just need to upgrade our network capabilities to decrease the number of EOS coins needed to operate the Dapps. Smart contracts to allow leasing of EOS coins from whales will also make it easy for developers to obtain extra bandwidth and CPU.
Look at Venezuela, it is a socialist country that promised free/cheap things for almost everyone in their country. Now they have massive currency devaluation because the government there kept printing money without collecting enough taxes from their citizens to create a demand/value for their currency. A UBI will be similar. Giving out resources without taking something back in return will only devalue EOS coins.
