지난 몇일간 어떤 집단 또는 기업에서 EOS의 투표(voting) 시스템을 문제삼으며 EOS를 비판하는 광고를 유료로 집행했던 것 같습니다. 광고를 목격한 커뮤니티 멤버의 코멘트에 의하면, Google에서 "EOS blockchain" 이라는 검색어를 입력했을때 해당 광고가 보여 매우 이상했다고 합니다. 저는 해당 광고를 직접 확인하지는 못했는데, 지금은 광고를 껐을 수도 있고 혹은 광고가 한국 지역을 타겟팅하지 않았을 수도 있습니다.
이 논란에 대해 block.one의 대표인 Brendan Blumer가 EOS 텔레그램 커뮤니티에 글을 올렸습니다.

EOS의 투표(Voting) 시스템을 둘러싼 논란이 있었는데, 유감스럽게도 다른 대형 네트워크에서 이에 대해 EOS를 공개적으로 비판하는 유료 광고를 집행했습니다. 그들은 투표가 EOS의 비밀병기 중 하나라는 것을 이해하지 못하고 있습니다.
토큰 보유자들이 투표를 할 수 없다는 것은 수혜자와 의사결정권자가 분리된다는 의미입니다. 이렇게 되면 토큰 보유자들이 의사결정에 최선을 다하지 않을 수 있는 문제가 발생합니다. 마이너들이 고액의 수수료를 징수하기 위해 수 년간 Bitcoin 네트워크의 스케일링을 보류한 사례를 우리 모두 보지 않았습니까? 투표를 사용하는 모든 시스템에서 중요한 것은, 단지 투표 결과에 영향을 받는 사람들이 투표를 원하는지 아닌지의 문제입니다. 그렇지 않다면 미국 시민들 대신에 영국 국민들이 미국을 위해 투표하는 행위와 다를 것이 없습니다. 관계에 대해서는 해석의 여지가 남아있을 수 있지만, 아무튼 그들은 투표결과의 직접적인 수혜자들이 아닙니다. Bitcoin과 Ethereum에서는 이렇게 토큰 보유자들의 의사가 반영되지 않는 문제들이 벌어지고 있습니다.
우리는 Ethereum에서 DAO에 대한 대응책과 같이 일방적인 의사결정이 내려지는 것을 보았습니다. 공개적으로 참여를 이끌어 낼 수 있는 장치 없이 몇몇의 소수에 의해 비밀스럽게 이런 결정이 내려졌기 때문에, 내부의 토큰 홀더들은 불공평한 거래 상황을 맞이했습니다. 이러한 특정 사례를 통해 우리는 코드가 법이 아니라 풀의 운영자들이 법이라는 사실을 배웠습니다.
토큰 보유자들이 투표를 할 수 있는 것은 헌법(constitution)과 결합된 오늘날의 가장 정돈된 모델입니다. 토큰 보유자들의 투표를 통해 모든 이들의 기대를 동등하게 관리하도록 블록 생산자의 범위를 정의하고, 네트워크의 제어를 토큰 보유자들의 참여를 통해 복원시킬 수 있습니다.
PoW 채굴방식은 공개적으로 거래되는 대부분의 기업들의 구조에 비해 보다 중앙집중화되어 있습니다. 하드웨어와 전기를 대량으로 사용할때 저렴한 상황은 대형 풀들이 의결권을 독점하게 만드는 것입니다. 이러한 문제가 불행하게도 이미 Bitcoin과 Ethereum에서 발생했습니다.
토큰 보유자들에게 투표를 허용하지 않으므로써 이해관계를 불일치시키는 상황과 PoW 모델을 통한 신속한 중앙집화 모델의 결합은, 행동에 대한 책임을 제대로 지지 않는 과두정치와도 같은 결과를 만들어 낼 것입니다. EOS는 이러한 문제를 해결하고 있습니다.

There has been some talk around Voting, and regrettably some other large networks have taken paid ads to criticize EOS publicly on this point; what they don’t understand is that voting will be one of the secrets to EOS’s success.
If you don't allow token holders to vote, it means you split the beneficiaries and the decision makers. In this case, decisions may not be in the best interest of the token holders - we’ve seen this with Bitcoin scaling where miners spent years holding back the network to collect higher fees. Its important to note, that all systems use voting, its just a matter of whether you want the people effected by the outcome of the vote, to be the voting party. If not, its analogous to U.K. residents voting on behalf of US citizens for their government; a connection can be argued, but they are not the direct beneficiaries of the outcome - this is how Bitcoin and Ethereum are structured today.
Further in Ethereum, we’ve seen unilateral decision making on things such as the DAO; since this decision was isolated to so few with no public framework for making such decisions, it gave inequitable trading opportunities to people on the inside. In this specific case, we also learned that code is not law but the pool operators were.
Token holder voting is the most aligned model that exists today and combined with a constitution, it defines the scope of the block producers to a degree that manages everyones expectations equally and restores control of network to the token holders themselves.
PoW mining is more centralized than most publicly traded companies; both hardware and electricity are cheaper in bulk which means means pools create a monopoly on the voting power; this has unfortunately already happened in both Bitcoin and Ethereum.
When you combine the misaligned interests of not allowing token holders to vote and the rapid centralization caused by PoW, you end up with an oligarchy that has little accountability for their actions; EOS is fixing this.
