8 Teams have been disqualified in the group stage. Now the remaining teams fight it out in Boston to crown the new Major Champion.

Upsets and New Legends

Upsets

Many of the Major Legends did not make it into the playoffs. Let's look at Astralis, for example. How did they manage to go out of the groups 1-3? A horrible result for a team that is considered one of the world's best. BIG, who made it into the playoffs last major with a 3-0 result, went out 1-3 as well. Virtus.pro going out 0-3 was not unexpected due to recent results (most of which signalled a fallen victor).

As you see, many great names are out, already. This paves the way for some new, recently more successful teams. QBF looking especially good and may be a surprise factor in the playoffs.

New Legends

mousesports, Cloud9 and fnatic, all of which have relatively new rosters, have made it into playoffs. Quantum Bellator Fire, who upset everyone at this event, has made it in with a 3-1 scoreline. Coming into the tournament, nobody expected QBF to do as well as they did, already. Putting up quite a fight against their opponents with their fluid playstyle caught most people off guard. The highlight of this being a 2-13 comeback on their CT side on train. Their great ability to adapt to their enemies transcendends maps and is fundamentally anchored in their ability.

With their great team work, they might have a chance to fight SK Gaming in the Grand Final, who is considered the number 1 team in the world at the moment.

QBF are going against Na'Vi in the Quarter Finals, which might be good for them, since if Na'Vi's star players have a bad day, QBF will demolish them even in a BO3 game.

Brackets and My Predictions

Who are we seeing in the semis?

I believe that we are going to have QBF vs. FaZe in the Semi-Finals, as well as G2 vs. SK. Mousesports are too inconsistent to be considered even on the same level as FaZe, that's why I think the clear favourite is going to take it. Cloud9 could upset G2, but same story applies here: Both teams are playing too inconsistently to make up an accurate prediction. C9 are looking good this year, but so are G2. We'll have to watch and see. Actually, I am looking forward to this match a lot! :)

The Grand Final

My prediction is that FaZe is going against SK in the finals, because I believe that QBF won't win against a world class team like them. In BO3's, the more prestigious team wins most of the time, and who could be more prestigious than FaZe, a roster fully packed with all-stars? FaZe are going to beat QBF with experience.
