JANTHO - Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) will send as many as 1,000 tons of rice to Syria, purchased from farmers in Aceh.
The delivery of rice to Syrian refugees is a program of the Syrian Humanitarian Ship (KKS). The stages of rice delivery by humanitarian vessels are marked by the ceremony of rice harvesting and rice packing at Gampong Lampuuk, Darussalam District, Aceh Besar, Monday (12/3/2018). Syria's Humanitarian Ship Program is a humanitarian program initiated by ACT Indonesia, by raising funds in a number of regions.
The funds raised by ACT were used to buy 1,000 tons of rice from farmers in Aceh.
Head of ACT Aceh Branch Husaini Ismail said yesterday that 1,000 tons of rice to be shipped to Syria comes from 340 hectares of paddy fields and involve local farmers. The peasants purchased by ACT are also priced well above their Own Estimated Price (HPS) set by the government. "They are so enthusiastic to help deliver 1,000 tons of rice to Turkey, where the Syrian Humanity Ship anchored. This is due to the close diplomatic and social relationship between the people of Aceh and Turkey even since hundreds of years ago, "said Husaini.
According to him, the rice harvest to be sent to Syria involves about 5,000 peasants, they are scattered in Bireuen, Pidie, Pidie Jaya, Aceh Besar, Aceh Jaya, East Aceh, West Aceh, Nagan Raya, and Abdya.
While Vice President of ACT as well as Responsible Ship Humanity Syria, Insan Nurrohman said Syrian Humanitarian Vessel will be anchor in Belawan Port, Medan, on 21 April 2018.
The plan of the ship will be anchored in Mersin Port, Turkey, then rice will be distributed by land to the Turkish-Syrian border. "A thousand tons of rice will be transported by 40 containers in our rice warehouse in Aceh. Insya Allah 40 containers will be officially released on April 18, to Belawan Port, Medan. Insya Allah, on April 21 later, a thousand tons of rice is ready to be paid to Turkey, "said Insan Nurrohman.
