Why I use Adobe Lightroom to edit photos

There are some who ask about the software that I use to edit my photos, and according to a survey on Facebook fans page Infofotografi.com, the topic of photo editing is a very popular thing, no wonder at the bookstore was a lot of topics about photo editing outstanding. But until now I have never found a book that reviews editing photos using Adobe Lightroom 3 in Jakarta.

This is very surprising because according to a survey in America, 90% professional photographers use Adobe Lightroom to edit photos, and only 10% are using Adobe Photoshop. While in Indonesia it seems the opposite, maybe more extreme that is 95% use Photoshop and only 5% use Lightroom.

Why do I choose Adobe Lightroom ?

Many reasons that make me like Lightroom, some of which are:

1. More efficient alias saving time and energy

Every time we do photo hunting good time streets or events, we usually take a lot of photographs, sometimes can be tens or even hundreds of photos, therefore the software that can edit photos quickly is needed. By using Lightroom, we do not have to bother opening multiple photos and editing one-on-one as in Photoshop. We can monitor many photos at once, select photos and edit them.

2. Interface is more suitable for photographers

The Adobe Lightroom interface is better suited for photographers, for example dark, color, noise control, crop and other settings are easier to reach and use than in Adobe Photoshop. Also available are many options for preparing photos, we can set the size and resolution of photos, and also can create watermarks easily.

3. Fairly powerful and feature-rich

Adobe lightroom is not only to set the light dark, contrast, color, sharpening it, but also there is a very helpful function like spot removal to clean the annoying spots like acne on the face, and the best is the adjustment brush to edit only part of the area of the photos only.

4. Tethered shooting

With Adobe Lightroom, you can connect your camera and computer with a USB cable, and then pictures taken by the camera will go to Adobe Lightroom automatically. This is a very helpful thing for photographers who work in the studio, because by looking at the images directly on the screen, they can see the details of the photograph.

5. Non-destructive editing

Lightroom keeps track of all the steps we take in editing an image, so if we are not satisfied with the end result, we can go back to the previous steps easily.

6. File management

In addition to editing, Lightroom is also very helpful in terms of file management. We can organize and group our photos in categories or add labels, keywords (keywords) to a group or a photo. So when we want to find a particular photo, Lightroom can quickly help us find the photos we are looking for.

What can not be done in Lightroom?
For photo manipulation such as changing backgrounds, creating photo montage, changing photos with unreal effects we still have to keep using Photoshop.

Nevertheless, I think Adobe Lightroom is software compulsory when we often photograph. Once the importance of this software made me design a special one day workshop about editing and photo management with Adobe Lightroom.
