Mushroom (Volvariella volvacea, synonym: Volvaria volvacea, Agaricus volvaceus, Amanita virgata or Vaginata virgata) or kulat jumpung in the Aceh language is one of the most widely grown food fungus species in East Asia and Southeast Asia with tropical or subtropical climates. Sebutan jamur merang berasal dari bahasa Tionghoa. Tubuh buah yang masih muda berbentuk bulat telur, berwarna cokelat gelap hingga abu-abu dan dilindungi selubung. Pada tubuh buah jamur merang dewasa, tudung berkembang seperti cawan berwarna coklat tua keabu-abuan dengan bagian batang berwarna coklat muda.
