Palm oil is the main source of vegetable oil after coconut in Indonesia. This plant is known to the world since the explorers of the Portuguese sailed to the African State in 1466. On their way to the Ivory Coast / Ghana, local residents were seen using oil palm for cooking or for beauty materials.
In 1790 for the first time a number of palm kernels were brought to England. Year 1848 palm oil plant into Indonesia, the first of the first there are only 4 plants grown in Bogor Botanical Garden. Until approximately 40 - 50 years later oil palm was only used as an ornamental plant only. Until the early 80s, oil palm crop in Indonesia was named as a prima donna commodity because it gave so much profit.
