The Court Room Escapade

in #esteem6 years ago

Its not very often you find your self in the court of law and seeing legal battles ranging between plaintiffs and defendant battling with their wagons of mouth savouring lawyers who are posed to represent their interest in the law court.
A typical law house especially that of a magistrate court is characterized by series of laughable events most notable is the environment where such law and order is restored. I visited such court house and it was so hilarious events and outcome I witnessed.

Racing to the law court as early as possible I was met with a desolated dirty looking building jam packed with so many properties littering the length and breadth of the premises. Getting inside the building, I saw a more hazardous looking room filled with properties that connotes abandonment and desertion. The room was filled with calmness and serious looking lawyers that were busy arranging their case notes and legal documents. The court clerk was busy looking for case files and trying to settle down as fast as possible before the honourable judge will walk in.

Little by little more lawyers and people started showing up to await the court to take off. Bang bang bang court arise was echoed by the clerk and everybody sprang to their feet. The beautiful magistrate and her a presumed assistant walks in with a smile, mumbling a form of greeting to the house and without wasting time, off the hearing of cases that was adjourned from a previous sittings or a new hearing. The clerk was busy announcing the case suites to be heard and trying as much as he could to make sure nothing was omitted from his files. Slowly he announces the first case to be heard and the defendant and plaintiff lawyers both introduce them self in a fashion accustomed to the judiciary.

In came the plaintiff looking exhausted probably from the past hearings he has attended. He was called upon to be cross examined by the defendant lawyer who was trying by all means to discredit his testimonies citing that he is on oath and nothing short of the truth should come from his testimonies.

I was struck by the way the law bench were sitting, firstly by call to bar hierarchy. Later more case where called in followed by the order of their filing and those whose case was treated partially or adjourned to that date.

Another thing that cut my eyes where the series of paper work moving from one table to another and being cross examined and referenced by the magistrate and her team. I wondered if a simple computer cannot hold all these information and how come in the 21st century we still have a non digitalized legal court room and how far we are from getting justice in a short, arranged and timely fashion as expected. No sign of an digital media equipment available for court proceedings and recordings. I wondered the brain capacity of those learned men and how they manage to gather so much information from their clients all over the years.

At this point, it reminded me of the shambles of the judiciary system in Nigeria and why they cannot dispense their duty effectively, efficiently and as when due. Their counterpart, the executives and the legislative are enjoying luxuries and comfort , why they are sweating under a dilapited building without a working fan and an dMy legal escaped.

I wonder how lawyers manage to dispense their duties in such horrible conditions as the so called court room. Having listened to the matter that brought me to the court, I began to think of ways CRYPTOCURRENCY can influence and affect the justice system positively and how the legal team can benefit from such a platform. I am now working on modalities to create such a Serene environment and platform. I will keep you posted on the development.
