Summer, comes with joy and excitement and that is quite understandable. You get to visit the beach and soak up the warmth of the sun. However, it isn't all roses and butterflies. The heat comes with a lot of disadvantages, especially to our skin. The scorching sun, pollution and humidity, end up rubbing off the skin of its natural glow that comes with the beautiful spring weather. Oily skin gets oiler and dry skin gets patchy. There is also the risk of skin infections that come from all the dryness and dead cells.

Apart from worrying about your skin which is quickly fading, one may have to start worrying about how to treat eczema and lots of pimples breakout, rashes and ugly acne. The good news, we have some tips that would help you keep the perfect glow and tan all through the summer and even the whole year-round.

Exfoliate Your Body

The body sheds dry skin every minute of the day. Exfoliation helps you get rid of these dry cells that may end up causing congestion and clogged pores if untended to. Now, no one wants their skin looking all dry and dull. Moisturizing your skin is good and it certainly helps in the humid weather, however, your skin will not glow if you do not exfoliate. Facial exfoliators are good for the face and the neck, but a body scrub is just fine for other parts of the body. As long as you have these ready, step in the shower, scrub, rinse and clean. Do this 2- 3 times a week, and say hello to a glowing skin, all year round. Exfoliation is best done before application of moisturizer, face toners, SPF or make-up.

Yes to Sunscreens

We understand that you may have left over sunscreens from last summer but they won't be quite as good as new. Over exposure to sun rays can cause premature ageing of the skin. All the more reasons why you should get new sunscreens for the new summer. The best type of sunscreens to get are those with UVA and UVB products which come in SPF 30 and SPF 70. You can never get too much sunscreens, in fact, a lot of people use too little. Although, we have just the perfect measurements for you. A full shot glass would be just enough for your body and a full tea-spoon for the face. You can reapply every 1- 2 hours to keep yourself safe from the sun, all through summer. Also, avoid stepping out between the hours of 12pm and 4pm when the sun rays are the hottest. If you must, protect your eyes with sunglasses.

Fall In Love With Water

You want to make water your best friend through all of that summer heat. Not only does water do wonders to your insides, it is quite wonderful for your skin. It washes out toxins, keeps you hydrated and gives you the sparkly, healthy skin you love. About 8 glasses a day, would suffice. Have a bath at least twice a day. Keep your face clean of dust and see by splashing your face with water at least three times a day.

Lotions and Moisturizers

Keeping your skin hydrated with body lotion is also a good way to keep that skin aglow. You may want to get rid of your thick winter lotions though. For summer, get light lotions that are fast absorbers and apply immediately you dry up after bath. Gels and Purees with fruity smells are just fine.

Summer Glow

Alternating your moisturizer with a sunless tanner will go a long way. Contrary to what you think, none of all that sun soaking on the beach would do your skin any good. Facial tanners are much more recommended and are perfect for the tanned look you may be aiming for, as they help build colors steadily. So please, keep out of the sun.

Wear minimal makeup

During the hot weather, natural looks are best but if you must wear make up, ensure they are minimal. When using foundation, ensure to accompany it with a powder with SPF to avoid patchy skin. Keep your lip gloss or lip balm handy. You do not want to be going around with dry patchy lips.

Wear light fabrics

It is time to do away with the tight and thick clothes and say hello to the cotton and light fabrics. Summer season has very hot weather and tight clothes can cause irritation and make one sweaty leading to itchy body. Prolonged condition leads to rashes and sometimes even serious skin infection.

Watch your food intake

The food we eat have a way of leaving a landmark on our face. Avoid junks and foods with high salt intakes. Salt has a dehydrating effect on the body. Eat lots of seasonal foods and fruits with high water content. Vegetables are also allowed as they help to improve your immune system and disease stress level. Cut down on meat intake because it takes time to digest and causes pimple breakout.
