Since I was definitely encouraged by the gameplay from the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2v2 Alpha a couple of weeks ago, I came into the previous weekend excited to have a chance to play a more complete version of the game in advance of the launch in October. A lot of my online friends were also looking forward to it as the Call of Duty community has been less active since the Championship tournament last month as many players have stopped playing. In addition, the growing list of new games being released like Borderlands 3 have surely gotten the attention of players.
This past weekend was the exclusive Beta for Playstation 4 players. The first two days were mostly for those that preordered but it was eventually lifted and opened for all of the platforms players. It provided a good opportunity to try out a good number of gears although the level was capped throughout the weekend (level 20 when I last played). We were also given a number of maps and modes that also expanded as the weekend continued. More notably, they also added the mini map to most game modes after initially not doing so. I was pleasantly surprised at the new night vision game mode as it was definitely a different pace to play with as the team play changes.
While I had challenges in joining larger parties, the overall experience went smooth with little to no connectivity issues. It is definitely a different gameplay experience from the prior iterations of past Call of Duty games but one I am willing to try as long as it is done with teammates. They have all liked it and look forward to a more complete experience although we will still have time to explore the Beta as it continues with some hiatuses through the 23rd of September.
It will reopen on the 19th and 20th of September for those who have preordered on PC and Xbox in addition to all of Playstation 4 players. It is said that they will also open the ability to play cross platform during this time so it will be out first ever experience matching players across platforms! From September 21st thru the 23rd, the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Beta will be open for all players across all platform. With only a month left for the game's launch, I am sure that many will get on to give the new gameplay a try.
