New month, new client, same old Captain

in #esteem5 years ago (edited)

Four or so nights after dropping @partiko and replacing it with @eSteemApp (from whence future posts of mine will originate), time to get this show back on the road. (I was intending to go to press before May was over.)

In case you haven't caught up with Partiko for quite some time, that was my former STM client back on the original Steemit. Last anyone reported, Partiko was supposed to move over to Hive's infrastructure--but still no word or confirmation from the developer(s). Their STM account went dormant by February (more or less coinciding with the arrival of Justin Sun and a centralised approach), and the current partiko.app site at this writing is virtually nothing more than the app's name. Perhaps its team actually called it a run? (If any former user's still wondering, I'll remind them via comment.)

For those wondering about the error Partiko started throwing up a month and a half ago, I have reproduced it here almost verbatim:

com.android.org.bouncycastle.jce.exception.ExtCertPathValidatorException: Could not validate certificate: Certificate expired at Sun Apr 12 19:59:59 EDT 2020 (compared to [current time])

To every other user: More or less your prompt to switch over like I already have.

As for the rest of the story:

  • The current do-over of Veritas, my gift-map project as a former Google+ member, has been in progress for the past five nights and counting. Veritas' last go-round, dating from last November, has been relegated to the cutting-room floor in lieu (joining last January's attempt). 67 steps down, 33 to go until I take a breather from that and move back south to Rogatia (for the Weymouth, Elmshire street plan).
    • Speaking of Rogatian streets, your first look at downtown Trouvaille (in southwestern Shropshire) has now arrived--although I've expanded the Metropolitan district's grid up to the first 20 communes since the time of this screencap (early last month). (The remaining ten are suburbs.) As mentioned before, the two parent books in the Sevton Saga are still on the backburner for at least another year.

  • In a day or two (as part of my lockdown agenda), I'll return to Tovasala, né Relformaide, and its Referata-hosted Dictionary--because a couple of new roots are on the horizon. (To break the one-year hiatus: Undo the damage done by hackers last northern spring. [Even though the wiki remains closed to regular editors until further notice; if you want to join, e-mail me at pierre612004 [at] yahoo.com and I'll get back to you.])
  • As for the Dixwells &c.: At their apartment base, the Panama City guests are still gearing up for a return gimmick (though not in person), with only a fortnight to wrap everything up. Details in our next Marigot Notebook; selections to be processed via MP3Tag starting on Tuesday.
    • Once we reach or surpass 200 steps for the new Veritas, the first 1,000 words of Unspooled #1 (in draft form) are pretty much a given. (Stay tuned for the Musescore trials, a red-panda-idol portrait, and a resuscitation of the Referata-based Dixwell Dossier.)
  • Not to mention we're turning the lights back on at Patreon soon--or a bit later.
  • In this month's "404 Files": SumAll, a social-media analytics service I once tried out as a Plusser, shuttered last Wednesday (May 27) in the wake of COVID-19. (Details in this GovTech article by Eric Holdeman; suggested by this Captain's recent Outlook inbox.)
  • Last but not least: Let us all take a moment to remember George Floyd of Minneapolis, whose senseless death by police officers has sparked protests all over the U.S. and elsewhere--bringing back Watts '65, L.A. '92, and the BLM standoffs of the New Tens to mind.

So that's all for the monent, as the Hive fork (and this Captain) enter June; returning in the next four days to take advantage of a milestone landmark. Again, see you on Reddit amid a couple of resteems. Until then, please stay safe, wipe everything down, wash your hands...and God bless.

P.S. If this installment relays to the old Steemit, I'll let you know.
