Poloniex added the pairs BTC/ETC and ETH/ETC.
ETC or Ethereum Classic is the original Ethereum chain that does not contain the code to return the ETH from the broken DAO to the original investors. Some people believed it is better to have an unstoppable currency than to make investors whole through central intervention. Those people continued mining the old chain. First only BitSquare, an awesome decentralized exchange, allowed trading ETC. But because BitSquare is decentralized it's quite a bit harder to use than centralized exchanges. With Poloniex adding the currency as well, I think we can confidently say that the original Ethereum has survived the fork.
ETC is currently trading at around 0.09 ETH (~$1.20).
This is great news and I really hope, ETC will gain traction quickly. The bankster-bailouts have shown what happens, if society starts to mop up after every idiot with a failed high-risk investment. Cryptocurrencies need to be immutable und uncensorable before anything else.
