Ethereum Bursts Past $1,300!
With a MarketCap of Almost $127 Billion
While much of the crypto-market has seen a degression over the past few days, Ethereum has stood strong throughout the bleeding. On January 4th, Ethereum surpassed the $1,000 threshold for the first time ever. It struggled to maintain above the mark until January 7th when Ethereum shot to over $1,150. Today Ethereum saw gains of over 13% and now sits at roughly $1,310.00 according to coinmarketcap.com.
THE CHART
So far Ethereum has had a great start in 2018. It will be interesting to see how far this can go. I've seen price predictions all over the board. Some think it can reach up to $8,000 by the end of the year. Although the ETH price continues to rally, Ethereum is still facing scaling obstacles that must be dealt with in the near future.
According to Blocktivity.info Ethereum processed 1,254,004 transactions in the last 24 hours, the most out of any cryptocurrency. Unfortunately, it is also using over 100% of it's network capacity with over 37K unconfirmed transactions waiting in queue. On the contrary, the STEEM network proccesed 987,532 transactions and did not even break the 1% network capacity mark. How's that for scaling?

@jeffjagoe Many Ico Will Start In " NEO " , in the past They are Using ETH a lot to creat new tokens .. ETH now have Several competitors .. I believe that ETH can Reach 8000$ and More in the End of the Year :) Steem can reach 20 or 30$ by the end of the year , Steem dollar can reach 100$ easly because of Supply ^^

I believe Steem dollars and Steem will move hand in hand because if Steem dollars do go to $100, it will make posting on Steemit worth a small fortune. As Steem dollars go up, Steemit user growth would rapidly accelerate. I think this is kinda why Steem is a wild card in 2018. If Steem dollars were worth $100, Steemit would have over 10 million users by years end.

It's make or break for Ethereum in 2018, they need to scale or die basically. With Eos and Cardano and even Steem SMT's or Vechain's Thor chain they'll be no lack in competition. At the valuation Ethereum is right now, 125 Billion and with the competition heating up, I think it's 50/50 if it will be worth more or less by the end of 2018.
the one thing that puts Ethereum apart from the rest is the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance.
Ya but how much of an alliance is it really? I don't think there's any real contractual obligation. It's just big corporations hopping on something new they think will help fatten up their margins. Kinda tough to do if there's a transaction backlog.
I think the big corporations are putting a lot of money into development

That and they have a fat wallet from the token appreciation

Thanks for the update! This is a great milestone for ETH and I'm glad as it is a great coin.
With the mass of competitors coming out and already available and growing, ETH will need to fix its scaling issues quickly and efficiently.
Part of what drove this price action may actually be the announcement of funding grants for scaling research and development - this shows how serious ETH are about remaining at the very top of the game.
