Believe ETH Will Raise in Future but Got Weak Hands? Here is How to Lock Them!

in #ethereum7 years ago

Main pepole with huge ROI on cryptos are the ones who forgot about them. But this days its not so easy to forget, you may also get cold feet, get drunk and have odd ideas or so.

So few guys came out with a fun contract for ETH which will hold your funds till July 30, 2020

The contract address is 0x1bb28e79f2482df6bf60efc7a33365703bcf1536

and here is full source code of it

pragma solidity ^0.4.11;
contract hodlEthereum {
event Hodl(address indexed hodler, uint indexed amount);
event Party(address indexed hodler, uint indexed amount);
mapping (address => uint) public hodlers;
uint constant partyTime = 1596067200; // 30th July 2020
function() payable {
hodlers[msg.sender] += msg.value;
Hodl(msg.sender, msg.value);
}
function party() {
require (block.timestamp > partyTime && hodlers[msg.sender] > 0);
uint value = hodlers[msg.sender];
hodlers[msg.sender] = 0;
msg.sender.transfer(value);
Party(msg.sender, value);
}
}

Audit of code was made by few known ETH people

Would be an agonising watch sitting there watching Ethereum rapidly getting overtaken by EOS

I doubt it. EOS was too late to the dance. ETH has a better chance of over taking BTC.

In the short term yes but from what I understand EOS is going to be far superior to ETH and and Dan already has a track record of working on projects that have turned out incredibly well

Also Eos much better funded than ETH - it stands to make between $1-2 BN this year from token distribution, read more on my posts.

https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@willstephens/4cpxu-why-eos-can-rival-ethereum-total-ico-funds-of-over-usd3bn-est-curentmarket-cap-of-usd4-5bn-overtakes-litecoin-market-cap

$1-2 billion and they don't even have a functional product yet! Why does it take $2 billion to code a blockchain project. No thanks, I'll pass.

They will be able to put a lot into apps, and letting people know about the platform - education and marketing - you can have the best technology but if you don't let anyone know about it - it can go nowhere ;-)

I strongly agree with you, this ridiculous amount of money needed make it look like they are in it more for the money than for the actual product.

Also 1-2b for marketing, its just too much.

Will Ethereum be able to overcome this problem?
http://nakamotoinstitute.org/mempool/ethereum-is-doomed/

look's like it already has M8, that article is from over twelve months ago.

Eth will go well yes.. over taking bitcoin in market cap, maybe? in the price doubtfull, see there is a unlimited supply of eth, due to its nature it is needed.. Yet bitcoin as a currency/virtual gold, will win, because there is a limited supply . and is harder to mine as blocks are incresed

It's not really unlimited. ETH gets destroyed as gas and then redistributed to the miners.

dont matter if it gets destroyed.. over all there is a unlim suppy

I think the best way is to maintain one set of balances for trading and one set of balances to forget about and check in 5+ years.

If you don't do that you open yourself up to trading a currency too early and potentially missing a large increase.

Knowledgeable Post.

In the near future ETH might raise again. Maybe not on the long term.

Wait flippycoin is powered by Changelly? How is it special? https://changelly.com/payment-widget

Giving up a lot of passive income opportunities, of there will likely be more in the future

Agreed, this is a nifty tool for conversation, but terribly -EV, in theory, to use. Those who might need to use it would probably be those least likely to do so.

Never a good idea to be locked into anything.

Better to control your own will power and split your currencies intelligently with both short and long term plans.

Not sure I would consider that a better option but nice to know it is possible.

Ether has the potential to give a tough time to bitcoin, but my question is what are the chances that steem will crush all and go to the number one position in a couple of years @kingscrown

#litecoin #$ltc will prevail in the end!

the coin that will rule them all has not come to light yet

Agree it's a good idea to just choose the good ones and hold long-term. I have chosen Bitcoin, Ethereum, EOS and OmiseGo (OMG) with a little bit of Basic Awareness Token (BAT) because I can't resist - and STEEM of course!

hahahaha the idea itself is crazy. Wouldnt it be a great idea for a coin to offer such a service. lets say , you get 30% on top of your eth , but have to lock them for 5years.

Ethereum needs more time for correction after the big run up. I would say there are no new highs till the beginning of next Year and maybe till the switch from POW to POS.

With the crypto market being so fluid and EOS on the horizon, not too sure about this. Graphene may be the future and with block chain tech increasing so rapidly, would hate to have that much liquidity tied up for that long and miss a great opportunity in an emerging currency.

I've got a lot of faith in ethereum I believe in its long term future. Good read mate. Cheers mike

Can you change the date it's released? So you could have multiple contracts releasing ether every month or so for the next 2-3 years. That would be great!!

Kinda gutted I sold my Ether now!

Just realised I kind of have this with bitcoin already. If I sell bitcoin for fiat I need to pay tax on it (capital gains). There is a tax free allowance though, so I have restricted myself to not selling more than that at present (things will change if we go to the moon). That kind of locks my coins up in the same way, although if I wanted to

Interesting idea, however, I'd rather test my self-control instead of leaving it on a smart contract ERC20. I'd like the point of being able to hold those eth through hard time though :D

I am buying and holding cryptos, but I would never do that! Put it on a paper wallet and lock it up instead of sending it away for years to someone else.

Pretty awesome.

You can also give them to me for safe keeping... ;)

I think LTC is the better play. Keep watching!

This Definetly Looks Like A Good Idea But The Crypto Market Has Already Passed The Tulip Mania in The Netherlands Back In The 1600s And Some Wall Street Pro's Are Prediciting A HUGE Bear Market :(
But Nevertheless Crypt0 Shouldn't Be Compared With Tulips :)

Hah, funny idea. But ETH is controlled buy one guy, it's creator Vitalik - he can split the coin if something goes not according to his plan, he can erase any account to 0 if he likes to. Sorry, but no ;)

There's so many scam ICOs on ETH that I can't see any real future for it - especially now, when Bitcoin is getting SegWit which will allow it to have smart contracts and many other things.

But that's just my opinion :)

You clearly have no understanding how Ethereum works

That is an excelent idea. That is in fact the point. Hold the crypto or buy something with it, in that way you create value. If you sell it for fiat money and in a short period then you missed the point.

This is a cool idea, but anyone with a serious investment can't be using this. Honestly, saying you can't hold during a down move is the biggest cop out. Have a plan and find the discipline to execute it.

You never know what's going to happen both in terms of ETH and in terms of your own portfolio. You NEED to have access to your portfolio at all times, just in case.

That is a great idea. Thanks for sharing

He who has the Gold Rules

we need to be patient. thats the key

I've been watching ethereum closely on coinmarketcap.com and it looks like it's rising a lot quicker than other tops alt coins. Buy and hold!!!

Thanks for your contribution

If I had enough money to invest in ethereum I'll do it
all my money are now in dash and bitcoin.

Didnt know about this

The out look is bright but its going to be one hell of a bumpy ride. Buckle up.

Good post but ive always been told the Man who has the gold rules this may be good idea for some but ill take my chances with holding my own.

That's a long time to be locked in, any number of things can happen until then.

This is a great tool for those who just can't keep their hands off the mouse and selling off everything they have in a panic!

Thank you) interesting!

Interesting if we can't hold by our self

Not a good idea... Have some self-control people. Don't ever surrender your access. EOS may just render Ethereum obsolete. Terrible idea: DO NOT LOCK UP YOUR ETHER.

how is EOS going to beat ETH when EOS owners just sold off their assets ?

This is crazy, Dan Larima included?

Thanks for sharing @kingscrown
Hi Plz check my post hope you like it https://steemit.com/photography/@saqib/beautiful-rose

W0w, nice!

So this basically just holds your eth and then sends it back to you in 2020?

This is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. As an investor, YOU have to take responsibility for your actions. If you want to hodl, then do so... no need for a contract :'D

I don't like it. I realize it's simple code but with all the contractual problems we've had I'm sure not locking any ETH up on one.

Hillarious

i think the ETH is similar to the born of bitcoin...i think ETH price up to thousand dollars,,,near

@kingscrown , is this service to prevent the emotional selling if the price crashes and to HODL till 2020 ? I mean, if i have printed out myetherwallet.com keys as paper wallet and locked them away, I am safe right? All I have to do is to make sure that i don't panic and sell if it went to zero (like it did), and continue holding?

eth crash zero

It sounds like a good idea , I guess if the technology is proven

There is a very high chance that in a few years Ethereum won't be the most popular contract platform. 3 years is the eternity in crypto world. even if that code looks safe nobody knows if some bugs in the Virtual machine could be discovered which will render contract worthless. I'd rather bury private keys under the tree 2 metters deep and come back in 3 years.

That is a pretty cool idea to be honest.
Hopefully this hodling pot will lead to the ETH price increasing.
I think it will in the following years to come, it's all about who can get in early at the moment.
Thanks for the suggestion @kingscrown

This sure sounds interesting hope it goes up!

I currently have some ETH but I wouldn't dare lock the funds up for 3 years. A lot can happen in 3 years and if I were to want to move funds over in LTC (Which may be likely) then that would be lost opportunity cost in my eyes. I like the idea of being forced to hold, but feel it threatens oppostunity cost in general.

I really hope it won't get hacked :)

Super.. I want resteem your arickle..
@kingscrown

Why not put a certain amount of your ETH on a paper wallet, then give the paper to someone you know and trust (sweet grandma or nana) to hold.
Out of sight, out of mind. A few years later, visit her for your money and a good conversation. Win Win

My behavior to attract your attention
@

It will go up for a while

That's an interesting idea but it seems very risky.

Enjoy hodling your likely-to-be worthless bags til 2020. If you can't manage your own portfolio then you should not "invest" (calling cryptocurrency an investment might be slightly pushing it) in the first place.

I don't know about that, having self control is definitively a better option, if you let emotion dictate the way you manage your investment you should not be managing your investment
