Surveys show that opinions about human origins in the US are still divided. Nearly half of Americans believe that humans evolved with help from God, while more than a third think humans were created exactly as they are today. Understanding how people's beliefs are divided is important, as these beliefs can affect public discussions, schools, and how people integrate faith with science.
People's views vary: some believe humans were created in their current form, while others think evolution occurred without divine intervention. Many hold a middle position, believing that evolution happened with guidance from God. Religion plays a significant role in these beliefs; some religions are less likely to accept evolution without God, while the non-religious are more likely to accept it.
A recent survey by Pew Research Centre (2025) found that 47% of Americans believe humans evolved with God's help, 33% believe evolution happened under God's guidance, and 17% believe humans have always existed in their current form. This shows that only a small number of people reject evolution entirely, while many still see God as part of the process.
Differences in beliefs influence everyday life and can make discussions challenging, but they also offer an opportunity to explore science and culture together.
Overall, Americans' views on human origins vary, and understanding these perspectives can help people discuss science in ways that respect everyone’s beliefs.
