Creating Trivia on Expand

in #expand5 years ago

Creating trivia is good fun! Here is a short guide to doing this task well.

There aren’t any doubtful areas in this task except for ensuring that the question selected is really important. Some criteria — does it add to our knowledge, makes us wonder, is out of the ordinary, unexpected, surprising, something only experts would know, etc, etc.

Popular culture would include — movies, art, food, travel, world cultures, some gossip, recent events, recent trends, recent politics, scandals? or anything you may find in a typical tabloid.

Once this is understood, the actual work begins.

Split the work into three stages (important only if you want to add lots of questions):

  1. Compile the basic question with one or more answers. Use an Excel spreadsheet.
  2. Add more options and the fun fact.
  3. Upload the data into the task interface.

Searching for popular culture or sports trivia should be easy. There are many sites that are exclusively devoted to quizzes, and many portals feature them as well.

Reddit is also a good place to get quiz questions.

At some places, one may find upwards of 20 questions at one place. Not all however would suit the task, such as questions related to pre WWII era, or those with no great import or information value (like original names, place of birth, etc., of movie stars).

The fun fact is a recent requirement, and Wiki can be a good source to quickly get a statement. Or else searching with names on the web could be the easiest way to get some information.

It is important to proof the questions for typos and grammar, as website aren’t very reliable for this.
