Broken Lives and Rising Hope

Three days ago was the third memory of one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history that took place in Beirut the capital of Lebanon.

Introduction

The story of the city of Beirut first began 5,000 years ago, witnessing the passage of different nations from the Canaanite, Phoenicians and many others. It was during this period that the phoenix, a legendary bird reborn from ashes, became the national symbol.

This city has survived a really confusing history, like the different devastating earthquakes that reduced it to rubble. And after that, it was rebuilt and became one of the most important harbors in the Mediterranean Sea that was able to act as a link between the East and the West.

In the new history, Beirut experienced various wars, with the Lebanese civil war being the worse. This destructive conflict lasted for 15 years starting in 1975 and caused devastation on Beirut and the entire country. Its impact was felt socially and economically, and the human toll was immense, with hundreds and thousands of lives lost, wounded, and people numerous kidnapped. To this day, the fate of many of the missing remains unknown, leaving unresolved grief and pain for their families and the nation as a whole.

Almost every home in Beirut has experienced the loss of a family member, permanent injuries, or even a loved one being kidnapped. The city has been profoundly impacted by these tragedies, leaving scars that resonate with families across the community.

The good in all of this has been the symbolism of the phoenix bird, which represents Beirut's ability to rise from its own ashes and emerge even stronger than before. Despite the hardships and challenges, the city has demonstrated resilience and a remarkable capacity to rebuild and thrive.

Until the onset of the largest financial crisis in Lebanon's history in 2019, the people were already fighting these immense challenges. The crisis continued to inflict hardships on the population. Then, without warning or preface, Beirut faced an unprecedented and horrific explosion, seeking to destroy the city and mercilessly take the lives of its people. The event stands as one of the biggest and ugliest non-nuclear explosions in history, leaving the city and its inhabitants reeling from the profound devastation. Not only myself, but a lot of others also still recall the explosion as if it occurred just yesterday. The deafening sound of the blast echoed, overpowering our senses. the ashes that covered all over the city, the smell of the burning capital mixed with blood it was a real disaster that cause hundreds of people to lose their souls and the surviving ones lost their homes, their money, and almost their everything. It was a harrowing experience that left scars that time cannot erase.

On the third anniversary of the explosion, the phoenix bird is trying to be reborn from the ashes, but this time, the size of the event is bigger than its usual capabilities. For three years now, the families of the victims still protesting and demanding justice from the government, desperately seeking answers about those responsible for the tragedy. To many, corruption lies at the heart of this tragedy, with other factors only worsening the pain and frustration felt by the grieving families.

Natural disasters can always happen, and human disasters can also happen that sometimes can be worse than the natural ones, but the biggest disaster is when you cannot find anyone in the decision center and the responsible that giving a solution. In this case, you can witness that centralization is the worse applied concept that we all have been raised on.

This absence of leadership highlights the failure of centralized systems, a concept we have all been familiar with, and its detrimental consequences become oddly evident.

To initiate true progress and improvement across all aspects of communities, the crucial starting point is adopting decentralization and the revolutionary technologies of blockchain and cryptocurrency. By doing so, we pave the way toward financial freedom, ultimately leading us toward a future of comprehensive freedom and empowerment.
