Very good question! Taking it one step further I would just add a suggestion for steem.inc to upvote their team members something like once a week with their 15M SP account. It costs nothing additional than what they already have. Maybe this way they could even hire back some of the members who were let go...

Paying team members in upvotes is too uncertain for them in my opinion. The value can't be guaranteed. But for community members it's less important because it's not a job it's a reward for adding value.
We're all in the same boat... It would be great if in the future people wouldn't need to convert steem to fiat. Just walk into the restaurant or a store and pay with an upvote. Steemeconomy...
