RE: The disconnect between me and movie reviewers.

It's not always an advantage to study something. You will see to start the flaws everywhere and - whether you want it or not - acquire a specific taste. I studied film and watched and analyzed ( in a more and less active way ) thousands of movies. Since that moment onward, mainstream cinema ( that is mainly focused on entertainment ) became to pleasure my taste buds less and less. Although I can enjoy movies for several reasons ( from actors to soundtrack, from editing to story, from cinematography to use of colors ), I usually prefer more original - and this is often related to story(telling) movies over those that are just meant to entertain the masses ( and the latter is exactly what the industry aims for of course, in order to make money ). There's exceptions though, often out of nostalgia.

Anyhow, in a way I'm jealous that it's so easy for you to enjoy all those movies. Then again, I know pretty well what kind of movies I like and where to find them ;>)
