I actually watched this film last week with my 12 year old son. It was interesting to see his reaction to the friendships. His main comments were "were people really that open with each other back then?" He couldn't believe that friends were so close, it is a sad sign of the times when your son thinks friendships have to be built around keeping a fair amount of distance between you emotionally and physically, as well as not understanding why the group of friends were not afraid to be themselves.
