Farming the Life of a Nation

in #farminglast year
The importance of food in human existence cannot be overemphasized as man must eat to live. The process through which humanity grow their food for feed is called farming. Farming indeed is the livelihood of every nation.

Farming was a major source of Nigeria's economy prior to oil discovery in 1956. The agrain Nigerian was doing so much well in agriculture. Some of the crops cultivated includes beans, rice, sesame, cashew nuts, cassava, cocoa beans, groundnuts, gum arabic, kolanut, cocoa, maize (corn), melon, millet, palm kernels, palm oil, plantains, rice, rubber, sorghum, soybeans, bananas and yams. In the past, Nigeria was famous for the export of groundnuts and palm kernel Oil.
However, after oil discovery the attention was completely shifted to oil.Today the country's Government depends heavily on oil neglecting the significance of agriculture in our economy.
Since the shift, Nigeria has experienced rise in crime, food insecurity .With the Nigeria experience, one can deduce that farming is as important as any other resource in a country. We can see from the Bible record that it was food that moved The Household of Jacob to Egypt.
We must do well to invest in farming if we must grow and ensure food security in our dear nation Nigeria.I own a very small portion of farmland where I majorly cultivate grounduts, beans and maize(corn)
