Pumpkin is a vegetable belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family, such as zucchini, cucumber, watermelon and melon. Pumpkin can be eaten natural or spiced, both raw and cooked in a variety of culinary preparations. In addition, in addition to being good, it has many beneficial properties for the body thanks not only to the consumption of the pulp, but also to the seeds and oil.

From a nutritional point of view, the pulp contains antioxidant substances, carotenes and provitamin A, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, potassium, vitamin E, C and group B.

Vegetables such as pumpkin, rich in beta-carotene and vitamin C combined, offer a boost to the immune system thanks to the heavy supplementation between these nutrients.

In addition to being low in calories, pumpkin is very rich in fiber and water and, therefore, it is very useful in case of constipation and hemorrhoids, since it favors the proper functioning of the intestinal transit, both modifying the consistency of feces and rebalancing the intestinal flora.

In addition, the fibers and the shortage of calories make the pumpkin an excellent aid in the case of overweight and diabetes, as it promotes the feeling of satiety and slows down the time needed to absorb sugars.

Pumpkin is one of the vegetables with the highest concentration of beta-carotene. Once ingested, beta-carotene is transformed into vitamin A, a natural antioxidant that acts effectively to maintain the integrity of the skin and mucous membranes and the quality of vision. It is worth remembering that the consumption of vitamin A also helps maintain healthy skin, bones and teeth.

Pumpkin also has zeaxanthin, an antioxidant capable of filtering ultraviolet rays in the retina of the eyes, which provides protection against aging of diseases of the eye muscles.

Pumpkin is rich in substances that support the health of our heart, such as vitamins A and C, fiber, magnesium and potassium. It is now known that consuming potassium correctly is almost as important as reducing sodium intake in the treatment of hypertension. Its consumption is also associated with a lower risk of stroke, protection against loss of muscle mass, preservation of bone density and reduced kidney stone formation.

Other benefits of pumpkin for the heart are the relaxation of blood vessels and the prevention of the accumulation of fat in its walls, avoiding any obstruction and atherosclerosis. The presence of fibers also prevents the increase in cholesterol that can lead to various heart diseases.

Pumpkin seed oil is full of phytoestrogens, substances beneficial for the prevention of hypertension.

Pumpkin seeds are rich in tryptophan, an amino acid responsible for helping to produce serotonin in our body. A neurotransmitter that improves mood helps you relax and sleep better.

In Pumpkin there is a good amount of D-chiro-inositol, a substance capable of increasing insulin sensitivity or increasing the effectiveness of insulin produced by our body, counteracting the so-called insulin resistance characteristic of type 2 diabetics.

Zinc, present in significant quantities in pumpkin seeds, is a fundamental mineral in man's sexual health because it regulates the production of male hormones that determine fertility, erection and sexual desire.

Pumpkin seeds contain an amino acid called cucurbitin, which is responsible for paralysis and the elimination of worms, particularly tapeworm, from the digestive tract.
