Feathered Friday--Red-tailed hawk

Here is my #featheredfriday post! Feel free to post your link in the comments, and tag me @melinda010100 so that I don't miss seeing your birds!

I realized this morning that I needed to get a couple of bird pictures for today's post. So many of the summer birds have already left, and are heading for warmer climates, but I grabbed the camera and went out in the backyard to take a few photos of any birds that I might find.

I was out there for less than a minute when this guy flew in, as if to say, "You need bird pictures? I'm not busy, so I can pose for you!"

He sat in the dead ash tree for quite some time.

Red-tailed hawks are great hunters, but the chipmunks and squirrels must not have realized that he was there, because they continued to go about their day as if they didn't have anything to worry about.

He was very busy preening, but he did stop and look up when this really big bird flew overhead!

Now I know who it is that has been hanging around the neighborhood and causing the Blue Jays to raise a ruckus!

Thanks for the resteem!

Wow, that one is beautiful! It's even better when birds of prey decide to pose. That second photo is awesome!

Thanks so much! I think of them as hunting in large open spaces, so I am a bit surprised to see this one in the woods.

Bird of prey appear anywhere! ;) I live in an urban area near the sea, and the amount of different raptor species that I've seen here is amazing!

I usually have Coopers Hawks. They are so agile and fly between the trees easily. These big guys are a bit more limited.

Your little furry friends are going to have to be extra careful for awhile! A photo of the hawk flying off with "lunch" would make for an interesting photo, though. :-)

I saw that happen last week, but he was already in a tree with his lunch, and I didn't know he was there. When I got too close, he and his lunch flew off.

You are wonderful taking pictures, they look great

Thanks, luv! Sorry I haven't been around more! It's been a busy week.

Calm down my dear, I hope all is well with you

All is well, it's been a good week!

I'm glad it's a good week for you

Being a curator for eSteem gives me so many opportunities to learn new things and keeps me busy over there.

You got so much going on in your backyard Melinda, love that photo of the squirrel running down the tree

Nature right outside my door keeps me quite entertained! The squirrels are busy gathering acorns.

Great shots, Melinda. The hawk is a majestic bird. You were lucky to capture photos of him as they are quite elusive.

The squirrels and chipmunk pretty be careful when the hawk is around.

We may have a over population of chipmunks here, which is most likely why he is hanging around. Just so my daughter doesn't have to watch him....

Beautiful hawk! I'll try to make a post in a few days when I get home from our road trip. Voted & resteemed :-)

Thanks! Safe travels!

What a beauty, @melinda010100! And very considerate of him to pose so nicely, whilst showing off his feathers. Looks like the squirrels and chipmunks got lucky today!

Also, not sure if I've used up my tipu curation for the day, but I'm giving it a go, and nominating you as a curator at the same time...

@tipu curate and nominate

@traciyork @cardboard gave me a really good idea with curation, so I'd like to make you a curator of @giphy. Are you happy to give it at go?

curate 100 (where 100 = 100%)The deal is the same as tipu, but just call @giphy instead with

Holy cannoli, Batman! Am I interested in giving it a go?

!giphy big+yes

giphy is supported by witness untersatz!

Dang @cardboard - looks like if the curate doesn't work, then neither does the nominate. Trying again with just the nominate command...

@tipu nominate

Okay, I'm probably doing something wrong, given it's way past my bedtime, and I've gotten 5 minutes of sleep in the past month...

I'll check to see what's up tomorrow Melinda, but for now if you want to read up on the new @tipu project, here's the link - https://steemit.com/steem/@tipu/something-s-cookin

And happy Feathered Friday, my friend! 😊

@melinda010100 already is a @tipU curator :)

I'm totally confused by the tipu changes. Let me know when you get it figured out, @traciyork!

Will do, Melinda - it's still a work in progress, but once I'm sure I understand exactly how it works, I'll be sure to shout out. 😊

For now though, you're on the curators list, and there's an initial explanation of the process at the bottom of this page -

https://tipu.online/curators

I did a couple curation tips today. It looks promising, doesn't it?

Yay! And yes, wicked promising! 😎

To send the upvote, please comment under the post and at the end of the comment, add: @tipu curate@tipu nominate. All of this is of course free :)
Check out https://tipu.online/curator?melinda010100 for more information and to see your stats :). Have fun!Hi @melinda010100! @traciyork has nominated you to become a @tipU curator! You can now request 3 @tipU upvotes per day on any content you like. The better curation reward you can get, the more upvotes with higher value you can send. You can nominate new curators as well!. To nominate someone else you think would make a good @tipU curator, reply to one of their posts or comments with:

Good miss your photography animal

Thank you! I am glad you like it! 😊

I would love to stretch like the chipmunk !! 😃 I suppose that I have to forget this idea as I am more than 400 y.o 😄

Yeah, you might hurt yourself, Luigi! Don't go climbing trees or eating acorns, either!

I will better wait until a good soul like you would offer me some food, indeed 😉 😃

A lucky score and he looks awesome i hope he didn't take a chipmunk with him,,,lol 😒

I didn't watch him closely, because I didn't want to see that happen!

Unfortunately that's survival 😜

He must eat, too.

Indeed that's the way the cycle works 😜

I do think he should go eat Chipmunks that I don't personally know!

awesome pictures especially the hawk beautiful and noble creatures. lol the squirrel looks so funny with the nut in its mouth😂

Thank you! He buries those acorns all over the yard, but I don't think he ever finds most of them again. They sprout and turn into little oak trees.

Such a beauty is that hawk. Poor little buggers chipmunks.

Here is my post

https://steemit.com/featheredfriday/@nelinoeva/featheredfriday-pelicans

I don't want to see it, but he has to eat, too, I guess.

I can't believe you are so lucky to photograph all these animals Melinda. Every time I try, they runaway or fly away. I saw blue jays yesterday, I took photos, but he was too far. When I came closer, he went up to tree. It was two of them there. I had no chance; they were too high and beyond the branches! Anyway, here are some birds I was bale to capture, lol.
https://steemit.com/esteem/@lenasveganliving/happy-chickens-for-feathered-friday

I am pretty sure this guy came and posed just for me because he knew I needed a #featheredfriday photo! 😁 I have my best luck taking bird pictures when I sit quietly and let them come to me. I love those chickens!

I guess that is the advantage of having a quiet place surrounded by trees. I can totally imagine 😍

Wonderful catch ! It is SO beautiful !

It was fun to have him be so close. He sat there for a couple hours and he didn't even mind when I moved around on my scooter to get a better camera angle. And he didn't even mind me talking to him!

This is a very good relay. I will try to participate in it next time.))

All bird photos can use the #featheredfriday tag... It doesn't have to be on Friday!

Oh, Thanks!)

@melinda010100 Your bird is important and amazing. I also liked the squirrel and chipmunk.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked him!

wow, magnificent bird and photos Melinda and what timing!

I think he heard me when I wished for a bird to take pictures of. Honestly, I couldn't believe it. I have only seen red-tail here once or twice in the 20 years I have lived here. Coopers Hawks are much more common. They fly between the trees like fighter planes!

Oh they sound so cool! And I think that hawk DID here you! And he hung around and posed so that lends weight to our theory!

I haven't seen him since!

Very interesting, more proof that he just came to help or was sent to help!

Lucky to get this big guy :-)

He even let me talk to him and move around on my scooter!
