Ten day festival marks the birthday of Lord Ganesh son of God Parvati and Shiva! With the head of an elephant and body of a human, he has got a special place in Hindu deities. He is always rememberd and worshipped first. It is auspicious to take his name first before starting any good work as he is said to remove all the obstacles which may come in one’s path. His favourite food being Modak, these sweet dumplings in the form of a potli (bag), are offered to him during this period. This depicts a potli(bag) full of good luck, wealth and happiness.

Now like everything else, this sweet has also changed its form. These Modak comes in different flavours. There are chocolate Modak, Mango Modak, Milk Modak, fig Modak etc etc.
But nothing can replace the traditional ones made of rice flour with stuffing of grated coconut and jaggery and then steamed.
With very mild sweet taste and soft texture they are in high demand during Ganpati festival.
