Frozen In Fear

The haunted house. That was what all the kids in the town called it, after they heard the rumors that the place was haunted. They always came at night when all the adults were asleep, having practice, then they would go down to the basement, lock all the doors, and play.

At first, the kids were hesitant about playing at the old house. But, after the one year anniversary of the incident, on Halloween night, they came to the house with gusto.

The house was, in fact, a haunted house of gargoyles. In the 1800′s, a soldier had died during a war along side the same soldier that was wearing the fine red coat from the painting up ahead. Interestingly enough, the dead soldier was able to walk, although in combat there was no chance of survival. Even still, the unfortunate victim was taken in by the family.

Apparently, the soldiers wife, who was pregnant at the time of his death, soon married another man, also in the military. As time went on, though, the young daughter and son of the soldier began to have dreams, each day. On one of their days together, the young daughter had a strange dream. The soldier and his pregnant wife were inside the house with her. Suddenly, her father came in the room and introduced his new wife. The child was glad to see that her father was happy, but she felt something was wrong. Then, the man she called daddy, and the pregnant woman, who luckily gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, were gone.

A few months later, the man had died on the battlefield. The young daughter of the soldier was very upset by this. She had prayed for the dead soldier to come back to life, but it was too late. Her father was dead, and the soldier was gone from her life.

On her eighteenth birthday, she got the opportunity to visit the house. It seemed like a surprisingly easy accomplishment. A few days prior, she had invited some of her friends to meet her at the old house near the town square. Upon arrival, they had opened the front door and went inside. It was dark, so they made their way to the basement where they found the ghostly light switch, and with the help of a flashlight, they were able to make out the outline of the family pictures on the wall. Anywhere your hand grazed on the wall, you could actually feel the cold feeling of the past.

The light switch had no problem working and soon the kids were able to walk through the house and make themselves comfortable. One of the girls had the idea that if the house was actually haunted, then there should be a ghost in the room. So, the group of kids divided in two and searched the bottom floor of the house, which was the only floor there was. They later called the first floor the basement, because of the basement-like atmosphere.

By the time they were done searching, it was time to go home. Fun time and exploration was over, so they all trudged out of the abandoned-looking house and made their way home. Their adventure was finished, and the possibility of staying awake all night to see a spirit walk around the town square was only a dream.

As the years went by, the kids grew up and forgot about their search for the ghost of the red-coated soldier. Much to their surprise, a few weeks after the one year anniversary of the incident, the kids met at the old house the night before Halloween. They wanted to see the old spirit for the first time on the anniversary of his death.

The next day, all the kids were astonished at what they had seen. The house was in ruin. The back wall and a few walls on the first floor had fallen in, and the family pictures on the wall were smashed into pieces. There were shoes and car parts everywhere, thrown into piles and left in the open.

The kids had insisted that the house was really haunted and the ghost of the soldier had come out of the house and destroyed it. The parents weren't convinced and thought that the kids had done it, so they grounded them. When the kids protested, the parents tried to explain to them that the house was worth money, and was haunted, but the kids wouldn't listen. No matter how many times the parents tried to convince them, the kids figured that their parents were in on it with the ghost to stop them from playing at the house.

That night, the kids waited outside the house. They were still indignant and were determined to solve the mystery once and for all. The parents had just been in the home and had to come out at some point. The kids waited quietly and intently.

Suddenly, they heard a noise. Someone was coming out of the house. It sounded like someone was moaning and groaning, though. They didn't really think much of it, but the sound it made was disturbing. They looked up and saw a shadow on the wall of the house. It was a silhouette of a man holding a huge rock. It was being thrown through the window. They saw a huge heart-stopping crash, and then they heard the yelling of their parents.

The kids ran as fast as they could back to the house. They were terrified of what they had just seen. The kids always had expected the ghost to come out on the anniversary of the soldier's death, but not to see the soldier himself. The parents had completely forgotten about their meeting the next day and about them being grounded for the rest of their lives. The parents were in the middle of their meeting, and getting ready to leave, when they heard fighting from the house.

The kids were standing outside, on the front porch of the house, when they heard the family fighting. They had managed to get past their parents and were walking up the old steps to the house. As they rounded the corner, they saw the family fighting. Their parents were fighting in the house. The father of the family, who had been found dead on the battlefield, was out at the front door of the house and fighting with the ghost that had killed him. He managed to fight the spirit off, but the ghost came at him once again.

The girls had frozen in fear at the sight of the ghost. The sight at the approaching spirit had scared them badly, and both of them tried to run but couldn't move. That is when the ghost swung the huge heart shape rock and hit the father of the house on the head. At that moment, the girls ran for their lives. They tried to get to the back of the house, but at that point the father was dead.
