As for the link between friendships/loves, I think it would undo some of the lessons we're meant to learn in different lives. I believe we come back again and again with the same group (more or less), based on our karma, until we learn all of the facets of our lessons with that particular group. We take on different roles in different lives...sometimes we're the father, one life the mother, another life the son, and so on.
