The downfall of paper and coin [Part five]

in #fiction7 years ago (edited)

“There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.”

  • Ayn Rand

It had been a week since i last heard from Klye, and i hadn't been idle for a moment. Before he left i received files containing personal information about every board member on every major Norwegian newspaper.
This file contained transaction data, IP addresses, location data, social security number, home addresses, photos and personal information on their closest family and friends.
This was insane, so much information gathered by the state. What were they doing with it?

I jumped on the buss to the city, exiting just outside the public library. It was packed with people as always, the only reason i took the buss was because it was free, No transaction tying me to the deed, if i were to use my car i would have to pay at the tollbooth and that could easily link me to the area.
I logged on their visitor computer and sent the files to every tip@email and every single newspaper from a throwaway e-mail account.
My contacts within the media were spared, i didn't want to put a target on their back when there were easier ways of providing the information. The only thing left to do now is play the waiting game and see what they publish.

Can you fucking believe it?
Two days of silence followed by this...sham of a headline, almost chocked on my morning coffee while reading it.
This was the headline spinning around in the media, no attention or spotlight against the government or what this sensitive information was and no concrete proof of where it originated. Had every single paper contacted the police without even thinking for them self where this information could possible come from?

I had one more option and that was to send this information to alternative medias, medias discredited by the government which had marked them as bearers of false news. You couldn't even link them on Facebook or Twitter because of censorship, but they still had a few followers left.
I had to reach these followers, it was a small segment of the population but at least it would get people talking about it.
A few is a lot better than none.

I repeated the same steps i had previously taken and posted from the public library, i even added some of the files on public message boards in hope of getting some exposure.
After i got home i turned on the tv and watched another brainless sitcom until i fell asleep in my chair.
I woke up to the alarming sound of what i thought was thunder, but it wasn't. Someone were bashing in my door, a group of at least fourteen masked men, armed with MP5's forced their way into my living room.

"Target secured" One of the men reported, then it all went black.
