"Maybe they have figured it out?" whispered Human Vit as ze watched Companion Clem carefully fold the shirts into a pretty gift box.
"I'm not certain," Human Kaan whispered in response, cupping her hand around her mouth. "Clem's lot aren't an in vivo species. They spawn."
Vit wondered, with some horror, what happened when an entire species didn't get someone else's dirty joke. Which lead to the horror that ze, too, might have missed someone else's dirty jokes?
How much filthy humour could there be in the universe?
Lots, probably.
"I've just had my eyes opened to possibilities that I can't comprehend," muttered Vit. "There's going to be another system of Archivaas dedicated to it."
"Don't say it out loud," warned Kaan. "Don't search it, don't write it anywhere. Keep. It. To. Yourself. The Archivaas don't need any flakking encouragement."
They'd already used the materials in entire solar systems to build their extensive libraries. The Powers That Be were the only ones who knew what they'd do with a new topic to study.
Many opined that they already had enough to do.
The two Humans left the topic alone. Clem finished their gift-wrapping and pottered off to visit their mate with anticipatory joy in their heart.
Nothing more was said about it for a week.
That was when the whole ship saw Clem and their mate wearing the shirts on a date.
There were others who understood the joke, but didn't have the restraint of Kaan and Vit.
The question is not how to keep the genie in the bottle. It's how large it is when it gets out.

Yeh if that one was under wraps it definitely wouldn't be for long XD
And how many dirty jokes you're missing at a universal level is definitely a shower thought.
Cue retroactive, "WHOA, did that author really mean to say that?" and mistranslations leading to dark giggling in corners.

For understandable reasons in the current crypto climate it is harder to get funded by the DHF, I accept this so I'm asking a wider audience for help again.
