DeVais looked past Joel to see two people walking toward them. One was a tall man with brown hair and hazel eyes. Captain Markson, he thought. The other was slightly shorter woman with jet-black hair and brown eyes. She doesn't look bad at all, is she the exec? He wondered.
"Is this quick enough Captain?" This time, the voice held a hint of amusement.
The marine inwardly cringed, "Yes sir, Captain Markson?" He inquired.
"Yes, and this is my exec and wife, Jean." Indy said, pointing to the woman.
Kyle gave a half nod and counted himself lucky that he hadn't made a pass at her and filed the information away. Within minutes, he had introduced his three lieutenants’ and Korlon.
After the introductions Indy turned to Joel, "It's okay they're cleared for entry." Then turned back to Kyle. "Captain DeVais, Lieutenant Wright will show you to your quarters. At Seventeen hundred hours, there will be a briefing in the main briefing room on level seven I would like to see you, your staff, and your platoon leaders."
"Aye sir." Kyle replied, signaling to his men, who lined up and get ready to follow him. He silently watched as Indy and Jean started to leave. He had almost turned to check on his men when the two stopped momentarily and Indy looked over his shoulder.
"By the way, Welcome aboard."
"Thank you sir." Kyle said, and then caught a careworn smile on Indy's face before they turned and left.
Joel, for his part, had noticed the smile and knew what it meant, DeVais had potential and the boss knew it. He waited until the marines were ready, which was quick, and casually said, "If you'll follow me."
"Lead on." Kyle replied, his right eyebrow arching as he noticed the casual tone in Joel's voice. He made a note to search the files for Joel's record and read it thoroughly.
