The day just turned August 1st at my location, and I can't believe that its already four and a half months since I made my ebook temporarily free in support of the people stuck in quarantine.
It was the 17th of march, and at that time, the death count in my own country The Netherlands was only 43 at that time, and the herd immunity government hinted at still felt like a good idea.
One and a half month later, the first of may, it became clear Covid19 was going round the globe and could be with us for the whole summer. The official death count had gone from 43 to 4893, and things really didn't look good. ll the experts were saying though to just wait for summer because summer would kill the bug. So I decided at that time to prolong the free availability of my book with four more months, till about the end of summer.
These four months are now almost over. One last month left. Official death count o COVID19 in my country is at 6113, and despite a recent uptick in cases and deaths, the weekly number of deaths are currently down to about 7 a week, or one-a-day on average. In other parts of the world though, things aren't looking that great. 7625 deaths in the US last week, 25% more than last week. 7181 deaths in Brazil, 5117 in India 4092 in Mexico, all basically unchanged from the week before. Columbia 2122, up almost 30%, and we could go on. Covid is still hitting hard around the globe, in some places as a second wave, and normal life is getting hit hard as well by lockdown and other stringent measures.
