Capsule Film Review: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

in #film6 years ago (edited)

Second part of Harry Potter film series doesn’t deviate in tone and style from the first. Chris Columbus, who had directed the previous film, keeps it in family-friendly territory and only the more careful viewers might spot a detail or two that could point towards tone a shade darker or more adult. Story about monster that petrifies people at Hogwarths is, like in The Philosopher’s Stone, faithfully taken from J. K. Rowling’s novel. The most interesting part of the film is the cast – Richard Harris as Dumbledore in one of the last roles of his impressive career and brilliant Kenneth Branagh as self-promoting celebrity wizard Gilderoy Lockhart, an egomaniacal character that, some could argue, is not that much different from the famous actor himself.
