Capsule Film Review: The Big Short (2015)

in #film5 years ago (edited)

In the decade that has passed since 2008 financial crash, few films dealt with those events like 2015 The Big Short. Directed by Adam McKay and based on the best-selling book by Michael Lewis, it explores those events from the unusual perspective – by making a complex plot about group of very few people who, independently from each other, discovered upcoming catastrophe, desperately and unsuccessfully tried to warn the authorities and public and, finally, found the way to profit while the rest of world suffered. Despite complexity, this film works very well due to unusual style, effective storytelling, excellent acting and some ingenious ways to present complex economic and financial concepts to general public. And all that is enhanced by black humour that makes The Big Short, despite its unpleasant and tragically relevant subject matter, a pleasant viewing experience.
