Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988)

Directed by James Signorelli. Starring Cassandra Peterson, Phil Rubenstein, Larry Flash Jenkins, Edie McClurg, Jeff Conaway, Frank Collison, Daniel Greene, Kurt Fuller, Jack Fletcher, Hugh Gillin, and William Morgan Sheppard.

TV personality Elvira inherits the estate of an Aunt she didn't know about, and sets out to claim her inheritance. Upon arriving in the small town where her Aunt lived Elvira immediately starts to rub the townsfolk up the wrong way, although she's a big hit with the teen population.
It's here she also meets her Uncle Vincent who tells Elvira he would like a 'cook book' which was in her Aunt's possession, a sentimental family heirloom. Having no attachment to the book Elvira has no problem with his request, though it transpires her Aunt was in fact a witch and her Uncle is a warlock bent on conquest, and the book contains the magic to help him accomplish his goals.
If that was not enough the townsfolk attempt to burn at the stake for witchcraft because she has 'bewitched' their children.

Although now a cult classic the film was a flop on release only making $5.5 million at the box office, not good considering it cost $7.5 million to make. Peterson was also nominated for a Razzie for Worst Actress thoufgh she lost out to Liza Minnelli for her roles in Rent-a-cop and Arthur 2: On the Rocks.

A then unknown Brad Pitt actually auditioned for one of the 'bewitched' teens, but Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) thought Pitt was too cute, feeling that Elvira wouldn't be interested in theatre owner Bob if Pitt was in the picture. On her casting notes of Pitt's audition Peterson just wrote "Yum Yum!"
