After many years away Lawrence Talbot returns to his ancestral home following the murder of his brother. Upon returning Lawrence is bitten and subsequently cursed by a werewolf, a deadly creature which may have a connection to his estranged father.
A remake of the Lon Chaney classic The Wolfman was a financial failure, only making $139 million at the box office on a $150 million budget. The 2012 movie Werewolf: The Beast Among Us was originally intended as a direct spinoff of The Wolfman , but after it flopped the decision was made to distance the films from one another. Although The Wolfman did win an Oscar for Rick Baker's creature make-up.
Universal have since twice tried to resurrect their classic monster movies, first with Dracula: Untold (2014) and The Mummy (2017). Both were just as successful.
