Jonathan Harker is hired by Count Dracula as his librarian, although later it transpires this is all a rouse, Harker is in fact a vampire hunter and the Count is a notorious bloodsucker. Unfortunately Harker is bested by the fiend, who then sets his sights on Harker's fiancée, planning to make her his undead bride.
Luckily Harker's associate Dr Van Helsing is on the case, but will anyone believe his wild tales in time to save the day.
The film was a massive hit for Hammer, and spawned eight sequels: Brides of Dracula (1960), Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966), Dracula has Risen from the Grave (1968), Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970), Scars of Dracula (1970), Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972), The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973), and The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974).
