All the latest Movieland investigations from detectives Dick japowski and Joey Arizona.

The Many Views of Detective Dick Japowski
The Lighthouse (2019)
Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson are great in this quiet suspenseful tale of the human condition. Dafoe as the grizzled fart spewing veteran and Pattinson new to the lighthouse family get to learn what makes each other tick.
The dialogue is almost Shakespearen and the script goes from the Farrely brothers to Lovecraft at any given moment. Superb filmmaking which shows the best way to handle Seagulls!

Justice League (2017)
Batman believes something bad is brewing and bands together a bunch of brilliant beings to banish the baddie back to where he began.
Suffice to say the super squad ain't super enough unless they've got Superman in their stable.
I was apprehensive going into this as by and the DCU movies suck, and the very first scene had me saying to myself 'this is going to be s*', but I was actually pleasantly surprised. Ben Affleck's Batman sucks, not that that's his fault, he's just wrong for the part (Jeremy Irons and J.K. Simmons are just as miscast). Despite these flaws it was actually quite fun, largely down to Aquaman and The Flash.

The Arizona Case Files
Porco Rosso (1992)
A 1920's flying ace, cursed to look like a pig, spends his days as a daredevil bounty hunter, taking on sky boat pirates. His life takes a twist when a hotshot American pilot hungry for fame seeks to muscle in on Porco's turf.
One of Miyazaki's lesser known movies is actually one of his best, the aerial scenes are magnificent and the world Miyazaki creates is somewhere you'd love to visit, if only you could get a ticket.

The Arizona Case Files
Predator (1987)
There are some purchases in life that are a complete no brainer, food, clothes, shelter, Predator/Predator 2 for 20p in a charity shop.

Mom and Dad Save the World (1992)
There's no chance of another safe, boring anniversary for Terri Garr and Jeffrey Jones when their station wagon is whisked off to a planet of dum-dums led by Jon Lovitz. One of those early bonkers nineties films that feels like the script was lying around through the eighties! What I'm saying is that this is a whole lot of goofy fun, with great creature design.

Nirvana: Live! Tonight! Sold Out! (1994)
An audio/visual collage of live performances and TV appearances, glued together with interviews and news footage.
It's difficult to be subjective about something that formed such a large part of your formative years, there's little here for non-fans, but for those who are it's a perfect encapsulation of the band you fell in love with.
