My First Post

in #firstpost7 years ago

This is my first post. Where to start...probably would be a good idea to explain how I ended up here. It all started with cryptocurrency.

A few months back I started getting interested in cryptocurrency. I kept hearing about it but not really knowing what it is. I decided to listen to a few webinars, read a few articles and talk to some people. I think I understand crypto and blockchain well enough to see how useful it will become soon.

My wife and I decided to invest a little bit of money in several crypto’s. At the very least we’re hoping to make a small return that we could use to fix up our house a little bit. Or if I believe some of the talk, we’ll make life changing gains. In any event, I’m convinced this technology is here to stay and now is a good time to invest.

I told you all that to tell you this – one crypto recommendation was SteemPower. My experience with buying crypto has been challenging to say the least. Especially the lesser known coins that can’t be bought with fiat money. So, doing some research in SteemPower led me to Steemit where I soon found out I could earn Steem tokens just by posting and having people liking what I say. Perfect!

Then I started thinking about it. What would I post? And why would anyone read what I post? Well, I’m just an average guy, probably like a lot of people out there. My life is very good but nothing spectacular compared to the world’s standards. I have many interests. I love spending time with my family. I like to cut firewood. I enjoy yardwork in the summer. I somewhat enjoy remodeling my house. I play guitar. I like Motocross and Supercross racing. The list goes on.

Maybe I can talk about my interests? Maybe someone will be encouraged? Maybe I can add something of value? Maybe I can even document an upcoming project for the house? Yes! And I already have a project in the works. I currently have a five-gallon aquarium set up for my kids. I’m replacing it with a larger, 20-gallon tank. I need to build a stand that will support the added weight and larger size. Let’s go!

Before we go to the aquarium stand, let’s go here…. It’s probably obvious if you’ve made it this far. Communication is not my strong point. I struggle putting my thoughts together in a coherent manner. Bear with me as I ramble on.

Back to the stand. I’m a designer by profession. I create shop drawings. (maybe we’ll get in to that in a future post) So, before I even begin a project, I draw an idea of what I want the finished product to be. That’s the easy part. Building is where I struggle. I’m not a wood worker. I want to be, but I’m not. Really the struggle begins with what materials to buy. During the design phase I have it all worked out. But halfway through the project I realize one of several things – I bought too much or too little of that, I bought the wrong thing, or I completely missed one or more items. And, of course, I’ve been known to cut boards the wrong size.

I’ll end on this note: below is a rough draft for what I’m attempting to build. I’m just going to use some scrap materials. I have a bunch of oak laminated particle board. I think it will do the job.

I will try to post as often as I can, but I do have a full-time job and a wife and 4 young kids. My life can get hectic and crazy leaving not much time or other activities. I'm hoping to get the stand finished within the next two weeks.

That's all for for now, or as my four year old started saying, that's all, folks! (yes, he loves Looney Tunes)
