Pikes Peak Highway leads to the top of the famous peak at just about 14,000 feet high. Last weekend the Highway, which is about 7 min from my house opend for the 2023 season. When we arrived at 830am for the 900am opening, we were already 40 cars deep in line. Many took the idle time in line to rig up fly rods, spinning reels or just take the dog for a walk. Several people had on full ski gear and were headed up to the top to backcountry ski down the west slope of the mountain.
On Pikes Peak you will find the North Pole and Santas Workshop. This historic spot is open almost year round and draws visitors from around the world.
The views up here are amazing.
The road is pavement all the way to the top except for the last mile or so which is tight switchback dirt turns to the summit house.
We only went up about half way to where 3 large Resivores are located. The upper body of water is fly fishing or artificial lure only.
Today I was with my friend Tony and our 12 yr old fishing buddy Miss Ellie. Ellie is a FANTASTIC fisherman who does it all. She needs no help and she has caught many fish in her short life so far. On this day the score was Ellie-4 Broncnutz-2 and Tony-0. She put on a clinic for all to see.
The wind was brutal and blew about 30mph all day so we only stayed a few hours. Miss Ellie got a little chilly and her mountain gear was not exactly on point today. Fisherman were everywhere, lots of hungry fish were being landed for those who had prime fishing spots.
Seems like a mini picnic on going there, Ms. Ellie is quite experience with fishing and had scored the top.
In this way it is much more fun when one goes with friends the way we see you doing a lot. When a person catches fish and cooks and eats them at night and their test is very fun and a person has a lot of fun by chatting with friends. I really enjoy your trip. Thanks for sharing.

While I practice the both sports of skiing and fishing, I think I would prefer fishing as it is more relaxing and lazy at this point. The silence of waiting for a catch simply clears your mind.

Yeah, I use to do some freshwater bass fishing back in the day... haven't fished for ages though.
Im not into fishing but do hate when Im next to a water and its chilly based on your cloth and wind was going that fast because of the waves on the lake, sometimes water start spraying out taken by the wind, must be nice on a more warm calm day, lots of pure air with all those trees surrounding 😎

The truth is that the view of those mountains is incredible, and you can also do many activities. It seems a fairly quiet place and ideal to spend very pleasant moments
Are those granite rocks? I really wonder how such big tress get water in between the rocks and how they survive.
