Sounds like you're getting old in your old age.
I don't know if it holds true for you but most of the people that have stiff neck problems similar to what you describe tend to have something out of whack between C6 and T3 and of course that's the area I am the most terrified of cracking (basically cracking anything above the top of the shoulder blades terrifies me but sometimes I get lucky and realigning that will just make the neck realign). If you were to give yourself a massage around that area does it make crunching noises?
And if it's been ongoing for a long time (especially multiple years) you are going to get killer headaches if people work on it, If I'm working on something particularly bad I generally won't work on that area for too long precisely for that reason x_x
And just on getting old in your old age it's amazing fun times when you have different things that need conflicting solutions. Like just from reading I feel like some of those injuries need a couple of weeks or so of solid rest...and then some of them need the rehab work which won't help the other ones aaaaaahhhh XD
Hope your next update shows everything calmed down and you ready to ease back in to your preferred :)
