Flash floods triggered by an influx of rainwater from upstream have swamped vast sections of the northern regions. Highway connections have been disrupted, crop areas and residences have been swamped, and ponds have been swept away, causing people to suffer. However, according to a report issued by the government's Flood Prediction and Warning Centre (FFWC) yesterday, all of the country's major rivers are rising and may do so over the next 24 hours. "The flood situation in low-lying parts of Kurigram and Rangpur districts may somewhat worsen in the next 24 hours," said the alert, which was issued at 9:00 a.m. yesterday.
