Beef Jerky

in #food5 years ago

Hi Friends,

I had some extra time on my hands due to the holidays so I decided to make a batch of beef jerky... check it out:

I love beef jerky but it is so expensive to buy. Making it myself saved a lot of money and I got a lot more out of it. I used the leanest top round I could find at the store, which was about $6 a pound, and cut it into strips and mainaded them in the fridge for 12 hours. I then put them in the oven on the lowest temperature and left the door cracked open for air flow to dehydrate the meat. Fast forward 6 hours and you have beef jerky!

I made a spicy and a regular batch and they were quite good. I am already ready to make the next batch!

Thanks for coming by,
Brian

Beef jerky look delicious

Interesting, I once tried to make dried fruit in the oven but I didn't like the texture, as you mention, I know the secret is to keep the oven door open so that the air current removes the water. The ideal would be to do the process in a convection oven

Bummer! The jerky comes out pretty good like this. I am sure a dehydrator would probably work better but I don’t make it enough to justify the cost of the dehydrator. Let me know if you try some fruit again or a batch of jerky!
