corn has high sugar, but safe for blood sugar

in #food6 years ago

The main nutritional composition of maize is carbohydrates, which almost meet 6-7% of daily requirements. But unlike the refined carbohydrate content in bread or white rice that quickly drains energy, carbohydrates in corn provide a stable and long-lasting supply of energy. This is because carbohydrate corn is a complex carbohydrate. In addition, corn also contains fiber and protein. The combination of these three nutrients is digested slowly by the body, and is also beneficial to control blood sugar levels because the fiber slows the body's speed of breaking down carbohydrates (glucose) to be released into the bloodstream.

And although the sugar content in corn is high (2 grams per 100 grams), corn is not a food with a high glycemic index, so even if you eat whole corn it will not cause your blood sugar to jump dramatically. Consumption of maize in a reasonable amount has been shown to be associated with better blood sugar control in people with diabetes.
