Tekstur yang lembut, rasa gurih- manis, dan berwarna hijau. Itulah yang menjadi ciri kue basah tradisional Indonesia yaitu Kue Putu.
Tepung beras warna hijau berbutiran itu menjadi bahan dasar kue putu ini. Yang membuat manis kue ini adalah ada isian gula merah diantara tepung beras hijau itu.
Untuk dicetak, maka kedua bahan tadi dimasukkan ke liang bambu berdiameter 2 centimeter dan panjang 3 centimeter. Bambu yang telah terisi kemudian dikukus diatas uap yang telah dipanaskan.
Dalam waktu 1-2 menit saja, kue putu yang dikukus itu telah masak, dan disajikan dengan parutan kelapa diatas kue putu.
