The Case for Keto 5

in #food7 years ago (edited)

howdy folks from the Great Plains of Texas where the sun is shining,
the weather is a warm 95 degrees and there are no sounds except
birds singing(and occasional gunshots in the distance but that's
normal for redneck country)and a breeze blowing.

Here's a shot of one of our neighbors mowing his grass:

We got lots of these guys next door, their fence is just about 150 feet
from our house, I like watching and listening to them graze. It's very
peaceful.

I wanted to continue talking about the incredible Keto eating
lifestyle today and why it's important. I think everyone should go
on it for at least a few months in order to detoxify and burn off
any extra fat.

The high carb, high starch and high sugar diet which most of us
are used to is killing us as a nation with sky-rocketing fatal
disease numbers rising every year. The biggest tragedy of all
is the fact that it's almost all preventable.

Here's what's happening in a nutshell: most of us build up a
carb sensitivity when we get into our late 30s or at least by
age 40.

  • That brings on insulin resistance.
  • Insulin resistance causes us to pack on fat especially belly fat.
  • Plus our hormones are thrown out of whack.
  • We stop burning fat so we can't lose weight.
  • Metabolism slows down and we don't have energy.
  • Diabetes, Heart Disease and obesity with a host of other
    diseases develop.

that's why this joke is so true:
maxine.jpgsource: sundayfunnies.com

This is exactly what happens because your body stores fat like
crazy when you have carb sensitivity and insulin resistance.
Which are the conditions created by the Standard American Diet.

The fix is simple but not easy folks. At least not at first. The use of
healthy fats such as coconut oil, grass-fed butter and cocoa
butter decreases inflammation(the basic cause of almost all
disease), decreases dementia, clears the mind and improves
memory. The brain is composed of 60% fat.

Saturated fats raise your good cholesterol which helps remove
plague from arteries and Monounsaturated fats fight Arthritis,
lower the risk of strokes and reduce breast cancer.

Okay if you're not familiar with Keto then this is a short intro
into it's amazing health preventatives as well as corrective
powers.

If you're tired and worn out or if you're tired of feeling like
the Goodyear Blimp everyday then this is the fix.

The only thing I miss are the desserts, cookies, pies, all those
things which are literally killers in disguise. Ice Cream...
oh man.

So we've been experimenting with different recipes, Mrs. J
has, by making delicious, sweet desserts like this one,
No bake Strawberry Cheesecake pie:

This is so good I just cut it in half for my piece!

thankfully there are several healthy sugar replacements on the
market for those of us who are addicted to sweets and we'll be
doing more baking to come up with delicious alternatives.

Thanks for reading folks, God bless you all!

may you live to 120 @janton

and you as well sir.
thank you!

I have heard some GREAT things about the results (both weight and health wise) about the Keto diet. I may have to check out that food pyramid closer and see how I can implement it here.

howdy @goldendawn yes the many and major health benefits are simply astounding and more doctors are realizing that fact. I listed all the diseases which Keto improves or cures in my 3d Keto post here: https://steemit.com/health/@janton/the-case-for-keto-3

I think you'll find it quite enlightening that's why I'm so excited
about it,it can literally be life-changing. God bless you guys up there!

I'll go check out the site thank you!

hey This is why you do not upvote me

my vote ain't worth a plug nickel at this time though. lolhi @ormila I don't know you but yes I'll upvote you sure!

I am with you on the desserts! I have tried a couple sugar subs and prefer swerve for the lack of aftertaste. Baking with coconut flour and/or almond flour is depressing to me though. Cheesecake is my absolute fave though and that looks yummy!

here is the post with the cheesecake recipe, it's super simple with I think only 5 ingredients!
howdy @barracudadiaries and thanks for reading. most sugar substitutes are really bad or bad for you but we are experimenting with some recipes that are going to be tremendous and you won't be able to tell they aren't made with real sugar. https://steemit.com/food/@janton/sugar-free-gluten-free-keto-friendly-cream-cheese-pie

Your statement about baking with the alternate flours is interesting..why would that be depressing?

haha...'depressing' for me means expecting one thing and getting something completely off: everything i've made with coconut flour is so dry it's inedible. 'depressing' ;)
And thank you for the recipe link!

yes Ma'am working with Coconut flour is very different. If you use it you either have to increase the liquids or decrease the amount of flour because it doesn't take nearly as much..so it takes some experimenting.

We use Almond four also which is easier to work. If something calls for a cup of regular flour we use approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of Coconut flour to replace it with because it's so dense.

It's very different but there are ways to make it work and the health benefits are worth it.
thanks so much for getting back and good luck with your car repairs!

I am always happy for baking tips...I'm not a great baker to begin with so I can use all the help I can get when it comes to altering recipes! haha
And thanks for the the car luck ;)

I'm not a good baker either so some of our research is for myself too. lol
quite a bit more information on healthy alternatives is coming.
thanks so much @barracudadiaries!

Great Info. I really like my cranberry juice and yogurt though. I mean, really like them. (LOL) The food pyramid is extremely helpful. Yup, I can benefit from this information. Thanks a bunch for this post!

howdy @squirrelbait! thanks so much for reading and commenting. Yes Ma'am cranberry is such a wonderful fruit for it's health benefits, have you tried their diet cranberry juice? I need to check that out because I know it's low carb but I don't know what they sweeten it with.

As far as yogurt we found a perfect Keto friendly one which is so rich, creamy and delicious, it's literally the best we've ever had and it has zero sugar and of course that's the only thing wrong with regular yogurt is it's high sugar content.

but you can pig out on this stuff, it's made by Dannon and called Oikos Triple Zero for 0 fat, 0 sugar and 0 artificial sweetners because it's sweetened with Stevia. If they would have kept the fat in then it could be a meal replacement thing because it's wonderfully high in protein.

Yeah, commercial yogurt is loaded with sugar. I generally get plain or lemon flavor in an attempt to mitigate that. My juice is sweetened with regular sugar but I only have a small glass a day, well, most days. Sometimes more. Been making a lot of iced tea from tea bags so I control any sugar content. Mostly, I make it unsweetened. I look forward to future health and nutrition posts. Glad we found each other to exchange things we've learned.

yes Ma'am it's wonderful. Now go buy that Dannon Triple Zero but make sure you buy the large size because you won't believe how good it is.

So true everything you wrote about in your post. Btw the caprease has protein in it. That would be the fresh mozzarella cheese. Nice neighbors. 🐓🐓

yeah we have great neighbors, they're very quiet and peaceful.thanks @mother2chicks how is your wrist doing, is that thing sore?

Wrist is an annoying, but necessary fix. I have work to do and this thing is making it difficult. I hear my chickens calling me. Got to stay clear of them until it heals. Thanks for asking. 🐓🐓

I understand. are you doing mostly physical work for your income or career or at a desk?
