The Geek Eats #11 : Authentic Japanese Tonkutsu Ramen at Barikata Ramen Bar, Cebu

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Crazy about Tonkutsu ramen? If yes, then it’s time to have some authentic Japanese ramen at Barikata Ramen Bar!

Barikata Ramen Bar offers three varieties of ramen, the Shiro, Aka and Kuro ramen. All of these ramens  are based with Tonkutsu soup (pork bone broth). Shiro simply translates white in Japanese. Barikata’s Shiro ramen is based with white pork bone broth, served with a slice of cha-shu(pork  belly) and their signature firm noodles. Aka means red, this is the spicy version of the Shiro ramen. Served with hot and spicy ground pork and chili oil. For the Kuro ramen, which translates as black ramen,  it is made up of black pork bone broth ramen with black roasted ground garlic and sesame oil. This is actually the bestseller ramen.

All of these ramens can be upgraded with add ons. You can customize your ramen by having extras such as adding chashu, ni Tamago (ramen egg), Beni Shoga (Japanese pickle), Nori, Tonkutsu Kaedama (100g), or even plain rice. You can have these extras for only P40 to P80 each.

For tonight, I’ve ordered a regular Kuro Tonkutsu ramen at PHP 355. True to it’s name, Barikata’s noodles are firm and not soggy. Their broth has this very strong flavor which is kinda salty for my taste. For my friends, they tried the Aka Tonkutsu ramen. The level of spiciness is quiet disappointing since it doesn’t really have that kick. Nevertheless, the soup still tastes good.

Not an avid fan of soups? You can still enjoy ramen at Barikata, as they offer their Tsukemen - the soupless ramen. You can have the noodles dipped into their three special sauce. Barikata is not just limited to ramen,  they also offer other Japanese food such as donburi, soba, and tendon.

Barikata’s steamed gyoza is by far the tastiest gyoza I’ve ever had in Cebu. And oh, 3 pieces of gyoza is only at PHP 50. You can also have a very generous serving of onion tempura at PHP 50 too.

That’s it for now minasan! Jaa, mata ne!
